Brief Introduction: First and foremost, Niharika Konidela is debuting with this movie by pairing with Naga Shourya under the director Rama Raju who got acclaimed for his debut movie ‘Mallela theeramlo Sirimalle Chettu’. After aggressive promotions and trailers denoting that this movie is a feel good love story, let’s see how far the move has reached the expectations.
What is the story all about?
Sandhya (Niharika) is a medico in Vizag, who falls in love with Surya(Naga Shourya) who is a young and aspiring politician. The couple will be indulged in neck deep love towards each other. Everything goes well at starting but the problems raises with the Surya’s involvement in society and problems of common people and sometimes involving in fights. This turns as a huge problem when Surya gets imprisoned by involving in a big scam. The rest of the story is all about whether Sandhya still loves Surya when she was far, whether they both reunited or not, how did the two characters end up at the climax. We should watch the film to find solutions to these doubts.
Niharika Konidela has successfully made her debut through this movie. She has shown enough maturity and beauty for her role. She has lived in the character. She has proved that she can excel in acting rather than anchoring. But she can improve more to show her best. She has made her mark and going to be seen in the industry for a quite time. Naga Shourya did his career best in this movie. The level of maturity he showed his character is outstanding. He acted nicely as a man who is crushing while balancing between his love for politics and his lover who hates politics.
Other than these two, Rao Ramesh did his best for his role. Srinivas Avasarala, Nagineedu, Vennela Kishore, Raja Ravindra did their best for their characters run time. Pragathi did nice but she can do better.
Niharika’s nice performance in her debut.
Naga Shaurya’s performance.
Slow pace and weak narration
Repetitive and flat dialogues
Bad first half
Director Rama Raju has said to be successful in presenting his thoughts on silver screen. His story and direction and dialogues are good but his screenplay can be better. If he has concentrated on the screenplay, he would have taken this movie to another level. Production values are an asset to this film as each frame looks so nice and neat. Thanks to the producers for making a decent movie.
Music and Cinematography are important for any feel good love story. Musician Sunil Kashyap did a good job by providing a nice background for the movie with 7 songs. Though the songs are not at their best, they suit the movie and the situations with nice lyrics. Cinematography by Ram Prasad is excellent as his shots played an important role in bringing life to the love scenes and climax. Editing is ok but he can’t be blamed as the story itself is a slow one thereby having no chance to the editor to the grip throughout the scenes.
‘Oka Manasu’ is such a movie with a clean love story with a poetic touch but the director has to wonder among the common audience, how much people have the taste for reading a poetry with a bit of slow pace. It may remain at any place in classics list but it is a doubt that this film will be in hearts of a common people. Two different people with different tastes fall in love despite their careers. The scenes between these two are two natural and some reflect situations of our lives. Seems director hasn’t compromised in portraying his thoughts so natural but the only question is how far the audience can stick to their seats in spite of snail pace narration.
The first half of the movie goes in poor and slow narration with only talks between the loving couple. Questions from heroine, unnecessary smile from hero without reason and kisses on forehead or cheeks may make the people restless. In the second half, the director tried to increase the pace with some characters and engaging situations between hero and heroine. The imprisonment of hero in second half may make the people connect with the story and by then the movie turns interesting with amazing big climax with nice performances from Naga Shourya and Niharika. The other departments like Cinematography, music and art did their best to give a poetic touch to the film. Overall, ‘Oka Manasu’ is a feel good poetic touch love story and the people who enjoy love stories despite slow narration will enjoy this film and the people who need some entertainment may skip this movie.
Verdict: Oka ‘Slow’ Manasu
