Correct Sleeping Position to be followed during Pregnancy
Pregnancy brings about several changes in a woman’s body and it becomes necessary for her to get adapted to them. One among the several changes that she may have to make is with respect to her sleeping position.
One important advice to be followed by would- be- mothers in this context is to sleep on her side especially the left side. This is beneficial to her baby as the flow of nutrients and blood to the placenta is improved. It also helps to reduce the incidence of swelling in feet, ankles and hands as the working of the kidneys enhanced and there is increased efficiency in eliminating the waste fluids from the body. At the same time, keeping your knees and legs bent with a pillow in between the legs will greatly add to the comfort.
Two positions which ought to be avoided during pregnancy is sleeping on the back and sleeping on the stomach. Back sleeping can lead to problems in breathing, digestive system and cause backaches, low blood pressure and reduced circulation to your baby as well as your heart. As for sleeping on the stomach, it is practically not feasible to do so especially when you reach an advanced state of your pregnancy.
