Wonders of Walnuts: Slow Down of Prostate Cancer Growth!
A walnut-rich diet or the use of walnut oils has the ability to slow or rather reduce the growth of prostate cancer. Previously, it has been thought that the omega-3 fatty acids in the walnuts are the ones responsible for this. It has however been recently discovered that there are some components found in within the walnuts which are responsible for slowing down the growth of this deadly degenerative disease.
After a previous study being carried out, it was paramount that walnuts prevent or slow prostate cancer. The previous study proved that walnuts reduce the size of prostate glands. These made scientists believe that walnuts have got some prostrate protective components. Although studies are still underway to establish what component is specifically responsible for this protection, omega three has been proven not to be responsible for this.
After giving some three sets of mice either walnut oil, walnuts or omega-3 fatty acids, after eighteen months, the first two sets realized a slowdown in prostate growth. However, there was no positive result with the case of opmega-3. As the research is going on, it is not only the omega three fatty acids that have been ruled out for being responsible for the protective nature of walnuts. Research has narrowed down and ruled out selenium, magnesium, zinc and fiber.
