Raosaheb Ramrao Patil, the former Home Minister of Maharashtra breathed his last today. Sri. Patil was an ex-minister and also an NCP leader. Patil had been detected with Oral Cancer and was under treatment for some time. He was operated upon recently at Breach Candy Hospital. Subsequently, he was admitted to Lilavati Hospital and was on support systems.

Raosaheb Patil started his career in Politics as a Zilla Parishad member in 1979. He was elected to the assembly from Tasgaon Constituency in 1990 and won elections consecutively. Consequent to that in 2004 he became the Deputy Chief Minister and was also the Home Minister of Maharashtra. He made some controversial remarks about the November 2008 Mumbai attack, which cost him his seat. Raosaheb could never set his career in politics again after his controversial statements and light hearted remarks about terrorism. He also got into controversies over the ban of dance bards during his tenure as Home Minister. Despite being reinstated as Home Minister in 2009, his career did not rise very high.
Of late, Patil’s health started deteriorating and he had problems with heart, dental problems and was getting treated. The oral cancer, which was a major problem did not spare him and he passed away at the age of 57 years.
